mmmmm…cow
Nope, I’m not a vegetarian, and it’s highly unlikely that I ever will be. Don’t get me wrong – I love my veggies, and I have plenty of meatless main dishes that rock my world - but a good steak is just one of those things that I find hard to pass up. Luckily, Alan feels the same way about his beef, so I try to prepare a good steak every so often. We both like our steaks the same way – just a bit of flavoring to enhance what’s already there. This rub does just that, plus it’s easy and quick. The first time I made this for Alan, he quietly finished it before commenting, “That was a perfect steak; it didn’t need anything else”. What more can you ask for?
WICKED STEAK RUB
Mix up the dry seasonings, then lightly sprinkle the first side of 3 or 4 steaks (preferably ribeyes…yum). Sprinkle worcestershire sauce over steaks and lightly rub in with fingertips (I put my hand inside a sandwich bag and use that to rub the steak; I’m a wuss and hate getting my hands goopy). Flip steak and repeat. Let the steaks sit for at least 10 to 15 min while grill/pan heats up.
Make sure to preheat your pan and cook your steaks over medium-high heat! Don’t touch your steaks until you’re ready to flip them – give them a good three-four minutes or so, depending on the thickness of your steaks. And make sure to let them rest, rest, rest for at least 10 minutes.
Not sure how to tell if your steak is done? Watching this video might help.
I served this with mashed red potatoes and roasted asparagus. So yummy!!
btw…If you’re wondering why there’s a picture of a cow and not the actual finished product, it’s because yours truly was so hungry – and it smelled so good – that I done forgot to take a photo. I do believe we’ll be having this again very soon, though, so I’ll try and control myself long enough to take a picture next time. ;-)

Looks to be lovely. Sounds very tasty and by your reaction it is one definitely worth trying. I will try it very soon myself. Thanks for the idea!
What a bright Idea.
Wow, I’ve used this rub for years, it’s the only way I will make a steak. But I didnt know you made it that way too! Are you sure we are only cousins and not sisters?
I have a few different rubs that I like to use, but this is definitely one of my favorites. How funny that you use this, too! I think we really might secretly be sisters!
Just wondering where you get the recipes. I really like the addition of ginger to this. I have never used ginger in a steak rub but it sounds gorgeous.
Ann
Ann, I get my recipes pretty much everywhere – magazines, recipe sites (Recipezaar is my favorite), cookbooks and occasionally other food blogs. I’d love to tell you where I got this one but it’s been long forgotten! ;-)
What cut do you like to use? Now that we are officially omnivores again, I’ll have to try this! I’ve been buying our meat from the farmers market and we’ve been loving it!
Ribeye is my all time favorite, Michelle! A good flank steak rolled up and stuffed with something yummy is another favorite.
