Twisted Bacon Tips & Variations

Use a Foiled Covered Pan – While using a rack or broiler allows excess grease to escape for a crispier result, a foil covered baking pan will work in a pinch. Let the grease solidify after baking and simply roll up the foil and throw it away.

Twisting Bacon – Slightly stretch the bacon while twisting to help form the twist.

Metal Skewers – If preferred, use metal skewers threaded just through the ends of the bacon to help it hold shape.

Amount of Bacon – Customize the quantity of bacon to your preference.

Thick Cut Bacon – Thick-cut bacon works best for twisting as it holds its shape better during cooking but I’ve used regular cut bacon with success as well.

Type of Bacon – Any type of bacon will work including vegan and turkey.

Flavored Bacon – From smoky and savory to maple-glazed and spicy, bacon comes prepared in a variety of flavors, choose the one that you’ll enjoy the most.

Seasoned Bacon – Add your own seasoning such as cayenne pepper, smoked paprika, black pepper, garlic powder, cinnamon, Everything Bagel seasoning or BBQ rub. Brown sugar and cayenne, maple and cinnamon, or cayenne powder and lime are flavorful combinations.

Twisted Candied Bacon – Try this chipotle candied bacon recipe and just twist prior to baking.

Cocktail Garnish – Twisted bacon adds a playful touch to cocktails, particularly a Bloody Mary.

Notes

The rack or broiler allows excess grease to escape resulting in a crispier texture but a pan works in a pinch. Simply, place each bacon strip in a baking pan with foil folded over the edges.

The thickness of bacon used may result in shorter or longer cooking times. Cook the bacon until it reaches a desired level of crispiness.
