Monica Young, congratulations! I am beyond excited and honored to be able to award you $1,000 to help your family get back on your feet!
There were many entries for Chicken of the Sea’s Great American Gratitude Tour and it was incredibly difficult to choose just one winner. If only I had $1,000 to give to each and every one of you! I ultimately chose Monica because of her dedication to helping others, recycling and giving money and time when she has so little herself. What a wonderful example she sets for her kids which will only continue to pay it forward for all of us in years to come.
You really deserve this win, Monica. Thank you for entering and please send me a photo when you find a replacement car – I would love to post it here!
Here is Monica’s entry into the contest:
Hi there, I subscribed to your newsletter and I saw the blog post for this contest. I’d like to enter if that’s okay and submit my entry here?I’d like to nominate myself if that’s also possible. I know you have gotten tons of submissions and I know there are probably others that deserve that prize and I bet you have read some wonderful stories but first I want to say that this is very amazing of you that have a contest like this. What a blessing it would be to win this. My name is Monica and I am a mother to three wonderful children ages 16, 13 and 7 whom I raised pretty much by myself. I am very blessed to have an amazing man in my life now but for many years I was a single struggling mother who worked very hard to provide for my children and give them everything that they need. I remained positive when times were hard and knew that God had a plan for the four of us. I also taught them how important it is to donate your time as well as items to those less fortunate or those who have succumbed to less than fortunate circumstances beyond their control. I offer my assistance at Church when I can and love to help with Vacation Bible School in the summertime. We donate every few months to Goodwill, I am an avid couponer and I pick up items for very little or often even free and donate those items to shelters and even animal shelters and I also donate a small percentage of my check at work to the AZ Humane Society and to the AZ Organ Donation organization. I also highly participate in recycling and do my best to assist my other close family members to do their part in that. I feel that one person or in my case four people can make a difference on step at a time, one day at a time. I will never stop donating, or recycling or giving my time to help those in need.Recently my used car that I just purchased less than a year ago broke down. Unfortunately because I don’t have any warranties on the car I have to pay for all expenses. I was told my timing belt and water pump went out and that my motor has issues and that I need a lot of money to fix these repairs. The estimated value to fix the repairs is more than I saved up to pay for my car! We have resorted to walking, riding our bikes and taking the city bus for the past two weeks to get to work and school. It’s been very difficult and Phoenix Arizona is just starting to warm up. We remain positive that God has a plan for us and that everything happens for a reason. We do have a little under $1500 in savings that we wanted to use for moving into a bigger place as we live in a small apartment but due to the recent car circumstances we need to use this money for a car. I’ve been searching for a used car but unfortunately we need to save up a little bit more money so that I can get a reliable car that won’t leave the children and I stranded and hopefully has AC in the car. My last car didn’t have AC and it was a very long, hard and hot summer without AC in the car. Which brings me to the current. I’d like to nominate myself. If I am lucky enough to win I will put it towards a car for my family so that we can get back on our feet. Thank you for taking the time to read my submission. God Bless.
