This easy Honey Chipotle Baked Beans recipe is a unique and delicious addition to BBQs, potlucks, picnics, and game day watch parties. So full of delicious flavor!

Why This Baked Beans Recipe Works

Honey Chipotle Baked Beans are my favorite – and now only – baked beans recipe. Sweet yet spicy, soft and piping hot, they go perfectly with typical summer barbecue fare.

You don’t need to plan ahead. This couldn’t-be-easier recipe since you start with canned beans and just dress them up in just 10 minutes plus bake time.

Easy Honey Chipotle Baked Beans

Honey Chipotle Baked Beans Ingredients

  • Canned baked beans: Choose your favorite canned baked beans as the additional ingredients will mostly drown out the original flavor.
  • Honey & Molasses: No brown sugar needed since you’re getting plenty of sweetness from the molasses and honey.
  • Chipotle chiles in adobo sauce: The smoky heat of the chiles and adobo sauces adds a fiery flavor to these baked beans.
  • Worcestershire sauce & tomato puree: The Worcestershire and tomato puree adds a unique tangy and savory flavor to the sweet and spicy honey chipotle baked beans.
  • Shallots or onion:  Either will work but If you do not care for onions, omit them.
  • Ground cumin, garlic and salt: To season and enhance the flavor of the beans.
  • Canola or olive oil: Just enough to coat the pan.
  • Cider vinegar: The cider breaks down the other ingredients which enhances the flavor and texture.

How to Make Honey Chipotle Baked Beans

  1. Sauté shallots & combine ingredients: Simply sauté the shallots over a medium-heat while stirring and adding the additional ingredients.
  2. Bake: Combine the beans and shallot mixture and bake until thick and bubbly.

Honey Chipotle Baked Beans Tips & Variations

Add protein – Add bacon, pancetta or ham to the baked beans.

Adjust the heat – It’s simple to adjust the spice depending on your crowd. You’ll still get lots of smoke flavor even if you make it mild.

Black Strap Molasses – Enhance the smoky profile of these beans by incorporating the distinctive flavor of Black Strap Molasses alongside the smoky chipotle peppers in adobo sauce. This particular molasses adds a touch of sweetness and bitterness, while also imparting subtle smoky undertones.

Customize – The beauty of the recipe is that you can customize the flavor, sweetness and smokiness simply by omitting or adding ingredients to your liking.

What to Serve with Baked Beans

The beauty of baked beans is that they go with almost anything but especially BBQ. I love to pair this baked beans recipe with smoked meats such as smoked pork chops. Hot dogs and baked beans are an American classic and macaroni salad, corn bread or corn on the cob are perfect side dish complements.

Storing & Reheating

Store the baked beans in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 6 days. To reheat, warm at a medium heat on the stove with a splash of chicken or vegetable broth or water.
