It’s six o’clock, I’m starving, tired and ready to call for takeout. You know what I’m talking about, we’ve all been there! That’s me almost every night, in fact. This simple Grilled Citrus Chicken has been my saving grace more times than I can count.

To make it, all I do is zest a lemon and juice a couple into a resealable plastic back. I’ll crush a few garlic cloves and throw them in along with some dried oregano. Add in some chicken breasts, then toss it in my fridge for about 30 minutes or so while I get a few other things done.

Although this is Citrus Grilled Chicken, often times I’ll cook it in my Instant Pot first, especially during colder months. I still grill it with my indoor grill pan but only to get some gorgeous marks that also add a little more flavor. You can make it just in your Instant Pot or just on the grill! Both ways are delicious.

It’s genuinely different because these cage-free chickens are fed a proprietary flaxseed-based diet – for chicken that is up to 300% higher in beneficial omega-3’s and 40% lower in cholesterol (vs. conventional chicken). Then the chickens are individually processed with purified air. Never any antibiotics. No added hormones. Vegetarian diet. Mouthwatering flavor!

Citrus Grilled Chicken


I like to serve this Citrus Grilled Chicken over cauliflower rice with lots of pepper and a little more lemon juice.


  • 1 pkg Open Nature® Air Chilled Chicken ((2 breasts))
  • 2 lemons ((zest from one; juice from both))
  • 2-3 garlic cloves (crushed)
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 2 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil
  1. Place all ingredients except chicken into a large, resealable plastic bag; mix ingredients. Add chicken, seal bag and toss gently to coat. Place in refrigerator for 30-60 minutes.

For the grill:

  1. Remove chicken from marinade and discard bag and marinade. Grill over hot coals until thoroughly cooked, turning once after about 5 minutes.

For Instant Pot:

  1. Set trivet inside Instant Pot, then add 1/2 water to pot. Remove the chicken from the bag and set it on the trivet. Pour marinade over chicken and into pot. 

  2. 1Close and lock the lid of the Instant Pot. Press “Manual” and immediately adjust the timer to 7 minutes. Check that the cooking pressure is on “high” and that the release valve is set to “Sealing”.

  3. When the time is up, release the pressure using quick release. Carefully remove the chicken and serve.
