Yesterday I shared that I had the opportunity to take a dreamy cruise vacation with Princess Cruises and how that experience completely changed my mind about cruising. Prior to Princess, my biggest cruising gripe was the food. It was typically just plain bad.
But this cruise? It was their first-ever culinary cruise. And it was DELICIOUS.
All of the food was great and I’ll talk about that more tomorrow. Today I just have to share about the fun we had with the first ever female Iron Chef, Cat Cora!! I’m a longtime fan of hers, both for her culinary talents but also for what she’s been through as a human and ultimately triumphed over. Both Cat and Suzanne Tracht were the hosts of the cruise and they did not disappoint!
I loved that the entire focus of the cruise was culinary-related. And what better way for Princess to share their culinary love than bring in these two talented women? We did a lot of events with them, from simple dining to winery excursions (all which I’ll be talking about in the next couple of days). We watched them cook several dishes together on the stage, too! Guests also got to try their dishes and meet Cat for a signing of her memoir, Cooking as Fast as I Can. I got a copy, too, and it’s quite good! I’m only a few chapters in but I loved learning more about her early life.
And you’ll never guess who else was on the ship! If you know who this person is, it will most certainly date you. And it will definitely date me but I don’t care! Here she is… That’s right, it’s Vicki Stubing from The Love Boat! AKA Jill Whelan and she is just. so. lovely. Always a smile on her face, always happy to chat with the crowd. She even hosted Cat and Suzanne’s culinary demo:
IT SMELLS AMAZING IN HERE! Cat Cora and Suzanne Tracht cooking up some delicious dishes. Hosted by Vicky from The Love Boat!! (Who remembers that??!) So fun! #ComeBackNew A photo posted by Kristy Bernardo (@thewickednoodle) on
Princess guests who attended the cooking demo each received a raffle ticket and a lucky few whose numbers were drawn got to attend a special winery excursion with Cat, Suzanne and Jill! As press, we were automatically included which was really special. Tomorrow you’ll hear all about those wineries. Even the food there was out-of-this-world! I’m telling you, if you want to cruise AND you want amazing meals…CRUISE PRINCESS. Since returning home, I’ve remarked to a few friends about how good the food was on my cruise. Their response was something like, “Yeah, Princess is known for their great food.” ummm…what? How did I not know this?? Now, this particular cruise was culinary-themed so even the excursions and some of the ship events were all about food. But even the “regular” food on our ship, the Ruby Princess, was sooo good. But more on that tomorrow!
It was such an honor to be able to spend time with these amazing women. Princess did a fantastic job putting together plenty of culinary experiences for this cruise; there was just enough to make us all feel pampered yet still have time for lazing around – just what a vacation should be!0
