Cottage Cheese and Salsa

Friendship Cottage Cheese and Salsa is delicious and a wonderfully healthy snack!

I have always struggled a bit with breakfast. We’ve all been told that it’s the most important meal of the day, which is one of the reasons I try hard to eat a healthy, filling breakfast each morning. Problem is, I’m a coffee girl. First thing I do when waking up is getting a good cup of coffee…which tricks my stomach into thinking it doesn’t need actual food. I head into my office, start working and, before I realize it, three hours have gone by and it’s nearing lunchtime. Now I’m ravenous and I reach for something quick, which isn’t always the healthiest of choices. I do go through green juice phases (the last “phase” lasted nine months and I skipped the coffee altogether), which I’m actually in the middle of right now. Every morning this week I’ve enjoyed a huge, delicious glass of green juice (no really, it’s good…you have to add a little spice)! But as healthy as the juice is, it doesn’t do much for satiating hunger. So I’ve added an easy, delicious complement…Friendship Cottage Cheese with a little of my favorite salsa mixed in. It’s high in protein and gives me long-lasting energy for a productive morning that sets the tone for my entire day!
Cottage Cheese and Salsa is one of my favorite healthy snacks! Plus an easy way for more great cottage cheese mix-in ideas.

I’ve been mixing salsa into my Friendship Cottage Cheese for eons. Can’t recall who first told me to try it, but once I did, I was hooked. I especially love a good smoky, spicy salsa. I only need a small amount and it adds incredible flavor! Seriously, try it…it’s sooo good. If I don’t have salsa I’ll add a few dashes of hot sauce and a decent amount of kosher salt and freshly ground pepper. I really can’t decide which of those versions I like more. It’s a great mid-morning or afternoon snack and really helps to stave off hunger until it’s actually time to eat. Wait…isn’t is always time to eat?? :-)

Friendship Cottage Cheese has created a super fun Superfood Generator and that’s how you enter the contest! It’s a fun, inspirational tool that helps people discover the endless deliciousness of cottage cheese with mix-ins, and their nutritional benefits. I love it because I’m not the best about coming up with things to mix into my Friendship Dairies cottage cheese (I usually stick to my cottage cheese and salsa), so this is a great way for me to get ideas and see some nutritional information about my choices. Here’s what I chose the last time I entered the contest:

I chose mango and dragon fruit because they’re two of my favorite fruits, plus pomegranate arils because they’d add a bit of tartness and texture. Now I can’t wait to get to the store to have this for a delicious change in my breakfast routine! Once I had my generated Friendship cottage cheese mix-ins on my screen, this is all I had to do to enter to win:

For your convenience, I’m posting the “recipe” for my Friendship cottage cheese and salsa breakfast or afternoon snack. You don’t really need it – just stir in as much salsa as you like, to taste – but sometimes it’s helpful to be able to print something out as a reminder. So here it is and good luck in the sweepstakes!

I do the same thing! Drink coffee and then I'm not hungry. I was trying to find a way to eat cottage cheese and I had put salsa in it and it was soooo good and filling. I just searched to see if anyone else had this awesome idea. Great minds think alike.

I often have cottage cheese for breakfast, sometimes with some whey protein added. I gotta try salsa in it! I often mix in Sriracha sauce, but like the salsa idea much better. Thanks!

I love this! Cottage cheese is one of my favorite afternoon snacks when I want to eat my entire pantry. I usually just mix in honey or a little black pepper. Never thought to mix in salsa, but I already know I'm going to love it...when I try it tomorrow :D

YAY!! You'll love it, Amy, it's my fave! Salt and freshly ground pepper is great, too. Dixie Chix Cooks told me she does salt and pepper plus a drizzle of olive oil - that's next on my list!
