Where to Stay in D.C. – Omni Shoreham Hotel

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Omni Hotels & Resorts . The opinions and text are all mine.

Omni Shoreham Hotel

Here in Northern VA, we’re fortunate to be close enough to Washington D.C. that we can get away for a few days with under an hour of drive time. Even so, I want to make sure that where we’re staying is worth the time and cost.

We stayed at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in D.C. this past Friday night, and it was HEAVENLY. I’d stayed at other Omni hotels in the past and have always been pleased, so this wasn’t a huge surprise. What was a surprise, however, was what a gorgeous property is tucked away right in the middle of town!

The Omni has so many nooks and crannies to sit and enjoy the outdoors. Fire tables and cozy couches can be found all over. The best part is the outdoor pool, complete with drinks and food brought to you by their friendly staff! We sat by the pool for a few hours and just relaxed with a drink in hand. You’d never know we were in the middle of our nation’s capital! No traffic noise or people running to get somewhere; just a nice, relaxing afternoon.

Every summer, Omni Hotels & Resorts spotlights one of the country’s most popular ingredients. This year it’s the passion fruit!  Their culinary masterminds created a unique and delicious menu of food and drink options. Past years have included Magic of Maple, the versatility of avocado, the flavor of honey as “nature’s sweetener” and the twists you can try with mangos! They provide a menu at the pool listing all of the delicious creations.

First, we got our drinks. We tried the “Passoa Mojito”, which is Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Passion Fruit Reàl, lime, mint and club soda. If you love mojitos, you will LOVE this drink! It’s just sweet enough with a perfect balance of flavors. We also tried the “Passion Fruit Refresher”, which has Aviation American Gin, Island Oasis passion fruit, vanilla, lemon, and Ruffino Prosecco. A perfect refreshment for the hot day!

Next, we ordered lunch. Rob went with the Lounge Chair Burger, which he devoured in about two seconds. :) We shared the Pork Spring Roll Lettuce Wrap, which has an amazing sauce with it for dipping. I enjoyed the Avocado and Passion Fruit Caprese Salad, which had fried basil that added a nice texture as well as flavor. We ate every last bite! It was perfect pool food and we both felt very spoiled. It’s so nice to feel that way once in a while, isn’t it?

After dinner we to our room to get ready for dinner. We had a gorgeous suite, complete with a wrap-around balcony, a jacuzzi tub, and a fireplace! It was so gorgeous and cozy that we didn’t want to leave. The bed was incredibly comfortable and we lounged there most of the next morning, where we had breakfast in the room.

Breakfast was an omelet for Rob and Crab Cake Benedict for me. They were very accommodating with our requests for substitutions and everything was spot-on. We enjoyed our breakfast while looking at the gorgeous view of green trees and bright pink flowers.

If you’re in the area but don’t have time to stay overnight, be sure to hit up Robert’s Restaurant located on the first floor of the hotel. Our dinner there was perfect! The staff was so friendly yet professional, and the food was to die for. We had scallops and a mezze platter for appetizers, and for our main course, we both had Dry Aged Ribeyes with King Mushrooms and Parmesan Truffle Fries. Rob substituted his fries for green beans, which were perfectly crisp-tender with just a slight bit of heat. Big thanks to the chefs, Omar Ali and Huy Huynh, who were as personable as their food was delicious.

One final note. I’d like to mention a few employees who were exceptional. Everyone we came in contact with was wonderful, but unfortunately, it wasn’t possible to get the names of everyone. So here are a few that made our stay even more special:

  • Moneika, the hostess from Robert’s restaurant: You couldn’t have been sweeter! It was lovely to have met you.
  • Ronan, our server at the pool: Thanks for the attentive service, even when you were super busy!
  • Mohammed, who I think is the bellboy and we met in the elevator: It’s apparent how much you love your job and the pride you take in your hotel. We both had big smiles after meeting you!

If you take anything from this post, I hope it’s that the Omni Shoreham Hotel is a wonderful getaway in the heart of D.C. I’d love to hear if you stay, so take pics and tag me @thewickednoodle on all social channels!
