Nutella Hot Chocolate is easy to make and uses just two ingredients - Nutella and hot milk! Creamy, rich and a wonderfully indulgent dessert.
Two-ingredient recipes sometimes beg for extras, and if you want to enhance this simple approach there are a few great ways to do it. But in a pinch you aren't missing out just by making it as-is; Nutella is one of those indulgences you can savor all by itself as well as an ingredient in something more elaborate than eating it with a spoon right out of the jar. That never happens around here. Ever. Maybe.

Ingredients
Two ingredients and less than ten minutes will award you with creamy, drinkable Nutella Hot Chocolate.
- Nutella
- Any kind of milk including almond, soy, hemp, etc.
How to Make Nutella Hot Chocolate
It really is as simple as the first time I tried this recipe; it was the middle of winter and we'd had a huge snowstorm - over 14 inches and counting. I put some in a pan and added some milk. My first batch of Nutella Hot Chocolate had a bit too much milk which, thankfully, adding another tablespoon or two of Nutella fixed that problem pretty quickly. Which only produced more of the Nutella Hot Chocolate so who was I to complain?
After a bit of experimentation I arrived at the right ratios for an easy-drinking mug; one and half cups of milk and between two and three tablespoons of Nutella. The measurements are more or less "to taste" so no precision is needed if you taste as you go.
Hot To Make Microwave Nutella Hot Chocolate
This recipe is for making Nutella hot chocolate on a stove but a microwave is just as easy. Just combine the Nutella and the milk in a microwave-safe mug. Microwave on full power until just hot. Remove from the microwave and stir to dissolve the Nutella.
Fun Nutella Hot Chocolate Variations
The thing to remember about Nutella is that in spite of how rich it is, this is one ingredient that always seems to invite you to add something extra to make it even MORE indulgent.
Like adding a little naughty scoop of real vanilla ice cream on top of the hot chocolate. Some swear by adding some full-fat coconut milk or replacing the milk with it entirely, but that's a move that could have you going for a nap, post-Thanksgiving Dinner style.
But that said, the ice cream hack is a great one to try if you are running out of Nutella but want to use whatever is left for your hot chocolate. You put a scoop of ice cream into the mostly empty Nutella jar and swirl it around until all the decadence is combined and ready to be poured into a mug full of hot milk--but not TOO full, you'll want to save room for the ice cream!
Has anyone ever tried FREEZING a bit of leftover Nutella hot chocolate? Probably not likely since this treat doesn't really seem to HAVE any leftovers. But if you do get tempted to try it, let us know how it works out in the comments!

Nutella Hot Chocolate (just 2 ingredients!)
In less than ten minutes you will be rewarded with creamy, drinkable Nutella Hot Chocolate.
Ingredients
- 2 – 3 Tablespoons Nutella
- 1 ½ cups milk, I like to use Almond Milk but any milk will do
Instructions
- Place ingredients in a small saucepan and heat until steaming hot. Whisk vigorously until frothy and serve.
- Sometimes I put freshly whipped cream and chocolate shavings for presentation but the hot chocolate is so rich and creamy on its own that it really doesn’t need it.
Notes
Add whipped, marshmallows or chocolate shavings, as desired.

I honestly have never tried Nutella. Frankly, the name is not that inviting. At one point I was told that it was popular on the east coast of the US; now I will have to see if they carry it here in MN.
Thanks for this blog - I have had fun!

Hi Steve! I never really thought about it, but you're right, the name doesn't sound that great. I hope you try it though...it's really quite something! So glad you like the blog - thanks!!

I'm in 100% agreement!! Everything would be better with nutella. When I was 8 and visiting family in Europe I was flabbergasted (but delighted), to see that my cousins ate fresh bread with butter annnd nutella on top. Soooo gooood!
Unfortunately, I can't keep a jar in the house cuz I'll eat it in less than a week. No nutella control!!
