Ingredients
- cucumbers
- cantaloupe
- grapefruit
- fresh basil sprigs
- fresh mint leaves
- cold water
- coconut sugar (or honey, optional, for added sweetness)
Instructions
- Blend the ingredients: Add the cucumbers, cantaloupe, grapefruit juice, basil, mint, cold water, and coconut sugar to a blender or food processor. Blend it until it's completely smooth.
- Strain the juice: Place a fine mesh strainer over a bowl and line it with cheesecloth. Slowly pour the juice through the cheesecloth, then gather the edges of the cloth and squeeze it to extract as much juice as possible.
- Adjust the sweetness: Taste and stir in a little more coconut sugar (or honey) if desired. You can also omit the sugar entirely, and add some after blending if it's not sweet enough.
- Serve it immediately: Pour into two tall glasses with ice, garnish with a sprig of mint or basil, and enjoy your fresh cucumber fruit juice!

Equipment Needed
- Blender or food processor: You can also use a juicer!
- Fine mesh strainer: If you're blending it, this is a must.
- Cheesecloth: You can skip this only if you're using a juicer.
- Large mixing bowl
- Measuring cups and spoons: We usually just eyeball the amounts, but it's a good ideas to measure it the first time.
- Knife and cutting board
- Tall glasses
Tips for the Best Cucumber Fruit Juice
- Use chilled ingredients: Starting with cold produce makes a nicely chilled juice that may not even need ice!
- Peel the cucumbers: Peeling the cucumbers will give your juice a cleaner, fresher taste.
- Balance the sweetness to your liking: Taste the juice before adding all the coconut sugar. Depending on how ripe your fruit is, you may need less (or none at all)!
- Don't skip the herbs: Basil and mint add so much flavor and make the juice more refreshing. You can also bruise the leaves lightly before blending to release their oils.
- Serve it immediately: This cucumber fruit juice recipe is best when it's fresh! It also helps keep its nutrients intact. If you're storing it, do so briefly in the fridge and stir it before drinking.
- Choose a different citrus: If grapefruit tastes too tart, try orange or tangerine juice!

Storage and Make-Ahead
For the best flavor and to maximize the nutrients, cucumber fruit juice is best when it's served just after making it. Since that's not always possible, here are our suggestions for how to store it:
- Refrigerator: Store the juice in a sealed glass jar or airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Stir or shake well before drinking, as it will naturally separate a bit.
- Make-ahead option: You can prep the produce (peel the cucumbers, chop the cantaloupe, juice the grapefruits) up to one day ahead and keep everything refrigerated in separate containers. Then just blend and strain it just before serving.
- Do not freeze: We don't recommend freezing it because it changes the texture.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a juicer to make this cucumber fruit juice recipe?
No juicer is required. A blender or food processor works well, just strain the mixture through a mesh strainer and cheesecloth.
Can I make this juice without grapefruit?
If you're not a fan of grapefruit, orange or tangerine juice are wonderful substitutes. It will be a bit sweeter so skip the coconut sugar and add some at the end if you like.
How can I make this juice sweeter?
To make this juice even sweeter, you can add more coconut sugar, honey, or agave nectar to taste. Keep in mind that ripe cantaloupe already adds quite a bit of natural sweetness, so adjust it gradually.
Can I use dried herbs instead of fresh?
Please do not use dried herbs in this recipe. If you don't have fresh herbs, we recommend omitting them entirely before resorting to dried.
Can I use frozen fruit?
Frozen cantaloupe can technically work in a pinch, but fresh cucumbers and citrus are definitely best for this recipe.
How long will this juice last?
It's best served fresh, but it will last up to 24 hours in the refrigerator. Make sure to store in an airtight container.
