This delightful cocktail, the Jason Mimosa, combines champagne, pineapple juice, grenadine, and Meili Vodka, co-created by Hawaiian native Jason Momoa.
A Hawaiian Mimosa with Vodka is a twist on a popular Tik Tok recipe, the Hawaiian Mimosa. Like the original, my version uses the same ingredients except I substitute coconut rum with Meili vodka.
What is Meili Vodka?
Meili Vodka (MAY-lee) is positioned as a sustainable vodka brand, with a focus on using 100 percent post-consumer recycled glass for its bottles, resulting in no two bottles looking exactly alike. Popular actor Jason Momoa and Blaine Halvorson, founder of vintage brand Junk Food Clothing and sustainable fashion line MadeWorn, co-founded Meili Vodka.
Produced in Montana, the vodka utilizes locally sourced grains, and the water used in the distillation process comes from springs nourished by snow and rainwater. Additionally, the vodka is allowed to “rest” and “breathe” in the fresh mountain air before being bottled at 40% Alc./Vol. (80 Proof).
Why You’ll Love This Cocktail
- Easy – This mimosa recipe is delightfully uncomplicated, consisting of only four ingredients and requiring no cocktail shaker. It’s an easy-to-make beverage that’s perfect for Sunday brunch or even bridal showers.
- Visually Appealing – The addition of grenadine creates a beautiful red layer, while the maraschino cherry and pineapple garnish sit atop it all.
- Conversation Starter – The name of this cocktail is a playful nod to a well-known actor, and who knew Jason Momoa has his own vodka brand. Moreover, the presentation of this cocktail is bound to spark conversations and leave a lasting impression.
Jason Mimosa Ingredients
- Champagne or Prosecco – Save the good stuff for a special occasion toast. Any Prosecco, champagne, or sparkling wine that you enjoy will work perfectly with this cocktail.
- 1½ ounces Meili Vodka (or preferred vodka) – I used Meili Vodka but use any vodka that you prefer, including a coconut-infused vodka similar to the coconut-flavored rum used in the original Hawaiian mimosa. You just may need to consider renaming the cocktail as a Hawaiian Mimosa with Vodka or a Hawaiian Screwmosa.
- Pineapple Juice – This variation replaces the conventional orange juice in a mimosa with a tropical twist.
- Grenadine – Grenadine not only enhances the flavor but also lends a vibrant layered effect.
- Garnish (optional) – Garnish with a fresh pineapple wedge and a maraschino cherry for added visual appeal.

How to Make a Hawaiian Mimosa with Vodka
- Pour chilled pineapple juice into a champagne flute or wine glass.
- Add the vodka.
- Top with chilled champagne.
- Carefully pour the grenadine along the edge of the glass. Do not mix.
- Garnish with a fresh pineapple wedge and maraschino cherry.
Recipe Tips & Variations
Orange juice – Substitute orange juice for a more traditional screwmosa.
Maraschino cherry juice – Substitute grenadine with maraschino cherry juice.
Coconut extract – If you desire a coconut flavor in your mimosa, consider adding coconut extract.
Begin with chilled ingredients – Mimosas are best enjoyed when served cold, and since adding ice is not recommended, using chilled ingredients is the way to go.
Shot Glass – A standard shot glass typically holds 1.5 ounces and can serve as a convenient measurement tool. There are also 2 tablespoons in a liquid ounce.
Adjust amounts – If you find the combination of alcohol and champagne to be overwhelming, or if you wish to vary the sweetness, simply increase or decrease the amount of liquids accordingly.
